New Camera - Williamsburg, VA

Year: 2006
Last updated: July 30, 2006
As you can tell from the dearth of photos I have posted, I had hit a rut. This was largely due to the fact that I was getting frustrated with the lack of control I have with my Canon Powershot. Don't get me wrong, it is a great point and shoot camera, but I couldn't get the shots I wanted. So I finally ordered a digital SLR (Canon EOS 20D). It takes amazing pictures, but I need to get used to shooting with it, since with control, comes responsibility for the picture. But practice makes perfect.
- Matoka - I wandered through the woods around Lake Matoka on the William and Mary campus. It wads a little dark, so many of the shots I had hoped would be great were blurry. These are some that worked out. (July 28, 2006)
- Colonial Williamsburg - I realized I generally take pictures in the late afternoon, so I headed into CW in the morning this time. I think things came out better this time. (July 30, 2006)
- On Campus - One last set. While I was taking my walk I took a few shots. Then I saw the bunnies. Many, many, many shots ensued (96 shots of two bunnies). A few even turned out. Enjoy! (July 30, 2006)

Vacation 2005 - Atlanta, Georgia

Year: 2005
Last updated: October 16, 2005
Another vacation, oh my! This was a smaller one, but we still had lots of fun, despite the dampness. It also marks the first trip in which Elizabeth had her own camera, and man did she go crazy. Given her enthusiasm, I did not take as many pictures. We have seperated out the photos by day and photographer.
A few trip facts:
- Lodging: Ansley Inn. Very nice little place with a strange proprietor. Good breakfasts too.
- Neat restaurant: Tu Tu Tango (thanks Jen!)
- Total number of streets in metro Atlanta named Peachtree: 41 (too damn many)
- Total distance driven: 1173 miles
Elizabeth's Pictures:
- Day 1 - Driving to Atlanta
- Day 2 - Fernbank Museum, CNN Center, and Centenial Olympic Park
- Day 3 - Zoo Atlanta
- Day 4 - Atlanta Botanical Gardens
- Day 5 - Driving Home

Vacation 2004 - Southern Caribbean

Year: 2004
Last updated: December 24, 2004
We took a vacation! Really we did, and there is proof. We took an 11 day cruise (which actually ended up being 12 due to a late return) to the Caribbean aboard Holland America’s ms Maasdam. It was a great trip and I am glad that Elizaeth talked me into the idea. Aside from a little seasickness that was taken care of by the free drugs on board, we had a wonderful time.
Below are all of the pictures that we took with the digital camera and a few that were taken with an underwater film camera. There are over 800 images between these pages, so some pages will take a while to load. As Elizabeth and I go through them, I expect we will make a few pages with the best pictures, but for now, browse to your hearts content.
- Day 1 - Embarkation in Norfolk and departure
- Day 2 - At sea
- Day 3 - Half Moon Cay, Bahamas
- Day 3 Film - Half Moon Cay, Bahamas - underwater camera
- Day 4 - At sea
- Day 5 - St. Thomas, US Virgin islands
- Day 6 - Roseau, Dominica
- Day 7 - Bridgetown, Barbados - Includes pictures from our submarine ride
- Day 8 - Basseterre, St. Kitts
- Day 9 - San Juan, Puerto Rico
- Day 10 - At Sea
- Day 10 Movie - A short movie I took before the swells got bad. Pay attention to the horizon relative to the side of the boat. At the worst we were seeing over 25 foot sweels.
- Day 11 - At sea - No pictures for as Matt said, "There are only so many pictures you can take of the ocean."
- Day 12 - Return to Norfolk

Spring 2004

Year: 2004
Last updated: June 8, 2004
A small selection of photos from our garden this spring. Selected from images I took while wandering around our yard. Not as many lilies this year (I think something ate the bulbs).

March for Woman’s Lives

Year: 2004
Last updated: April 26, 2004
Thanks to Jennifer for letting Elizabeth and I know about the bus up to what became a historic march for woman’s rights. While having a great time, I tried to get some pictures that would show the magnitude of the march. Estimates I have heard put the crowd at between 750,000 and 1,000,000 people. Not all of the pictures came out as well as I would have liked, but I have posted them all anyway instead of selecting only the best ones. (The image at right was not mine obviously, I grabbed it from the Washington Post website to give an idea of how many people were there.)
More information about the march can be found below:
Enjoy the pictures (and the signs)

Spring Plants

Year: 2003
Last updated: April 23, 2003
Here are the images for the 2003 growing season. You can begin to see the culmination of the days of pain we inflicted on our bodies last fall to plant the 200 daffodil bulbs and the 100 daylilies. I think they will be wonderful. The lilies from last year are also expanding rapidly and will provide beauty once again this year.

Ocean City

Year: 2002
Last updated: November 4, 2002
Elizabeth and I took a short vacation and spent a weekend in Ocean City, MD. These images are from my trips along the beach. One of the good things about the beach in November are there are very few people to get in the way of nature.

Punkin Chunkin
Year: 2002
Last updated: November 4, 2002
During the above vacation, we took a trip to Millsboro DE for the 2002 Punkin Chunkin. This event is simply a competition (with various classes) where people build machines to see who can launch a pumpkin the furthest. The image at right is the only person we saw who I think was dressed warmly enough for the event. The pictures are not great for this event, but we could not get close enough to the actual machines.

Fall Planting

Year: 2002
When we moved in to the house, the front yard was all grass; or at least that was the theory. The hill had a hard time supporting grass. The temptation of hundreds of flowers gracing our front yard was too much to contain and we ordered 200 daffodil bulbs and 100 daylilies. The pictures in this gallery document the design, soil preperation pain, and planting phases.

Tasty Bits

Year: 2002
Here are some photos of the produce generated from our first years harvest of tomato plants. Not many pictures although Elizabeth did get tons of tomatos.
-
Flowers around the House

Year: 2002
The first flowers we planted at the house were 50 asiatic lilies. These are photos of their first bloom plus other flowers that were already in the garden when we bought the house. I went a little crazy taking pictures of flowers as you can see.
-
Edible Planting
Year: 2002
Our first attempt at a vegetable garden. Things turned out ok, but we realized that the area we picked to plant did not get enough full sun and didn’t produce as many vegetables as leaves.

This is a small selection of the hunderds of images I have collected this year as I brought my camera with me most anytime I went out to wander the yard or our local parks.

Williamsburg

Year: 2001
From the first year I had my digital camera, I was still learning that pictures were now free, so there aren’t that many images. A few fall images with a sunset thrown in for good measure.

Madison

Years: 1993 - 1997
These are a select few pictures that I had taken in on trips to Madison County when I was in college. They are 35mm prints that have been scanned in and cleaned up a little to remove imperfections from scanning and to correct the color a little.
