Baby's First Credit Card?

So, I was shopping for baby things today... two of my friends are expecting (and due about two months apart), so they're having a joint shower.

And I think I've finally figured out why women willingly undergo the agony of childbirth more than once in their lifetimes: economy.

I mean, yes, okay-- food, clothing (boy, will they go through that fast!), college, all that's pretty pricey on its own, on a per-person basis. But the baby industry doesn't even wait for your kid to start outgrowing its clothes... they nail it to you *hard* right after it's born.

Bedding's about a quarter the size of "normal" grown-up bedding, but the prices are nearly identical. Baby furniture, likewise. Then there are all those things that your baby won't need/will outgrow after a couple of years-- bottles, diaper pails, bibs, strollers, carriers, infant car seats...

So, you see? By the time the first one's out of diapers, the poor parents must look back at all that expensive baby stuff and go, "Well... we *have* all the things already, honey... might as well get our money's worth out of them..."

::grabs the monitor and bangs her forehead against it a few times::

Alright. I feel better now. Carry on.

Dingbats!

I have dingbats! Yay!

(No, silly, I'm not insulting my patrons. Nor am I talking about night-flying mammals with a bad sense of direction... I mean the acanthus leaves you should be able to see up in the banner. It's a printing term. Go look it up.)

Finally! Several days of new languages and tweaking and trial-and-error and much good advice on the part of friends (who didn't always know what they were giving advice *about*) later, the blog's front page is starting to look the way I envisioned it.

Of course, the individual entry pages are still sort of rough. And I haven't even touched the comments format.

And when it comes down to it, I still have no idea to what use I really want to put this space.

But hey... it's a start.

On the plus side, I foresee the 005.72's (that would be Web sites--Design) getting a whole round of circs... and undergoing a significant amount of collection development immediately thereafter. Heh.

So, one of our merry band of gamers turned up this Roleplaying Purity Test, and as everyone *else* took it, how could I refuse? Let me tell you, a few years on the Hall can really hurt a girl.

The berzerker thing's mostly under control, though, now.

No, really.
Stop looking at me like that.
Don't make me come over there and hurt you...
