Ok...
Admittedly, I haven't bought "good" bras for a long time. Kevin and I've been fairly tight on money for a long time, so why spend $20 for a bra when you can go to K-mart and pick up a handful of cheap ones for $3.99 each?
Well, because as I discovered on Friday, the $3.99 ones don't last worth shit. I was hooking it up and put my finger through the lace and ripped it. Oh. Goody. So I dug an old sports bra out and wore that instead.
So, like I said, I bought some new bras, the good kind, at Fashion Bug on Saturday.
I want to know something, though. The last time I bought "good" bras, I was probably in high school, so I guess I've missed 10 years or so of "bra advancement." It used to be, the idea of a bra was to push your breasts together and up, making one smooth curve where your bosom was, and provide some support, and, if you were lucky, not chaffe too much, or dig holes in your chest where the underwire poked you.
Now, it seems, the object of a bra is to separate your breasts and push them out, so they're pointed in different directions. And there's very little of what I would call "support". Don't get me wrong, they're not uncomfortable or anything, but... well, I am a 42DD (or a 44D, depending on the bra) and, well... with this new bra style... I jiggle. Rather a lot.
Kevin says it's a stylistic thing, that previously the idea with bras was to make breasts as unnoticable as possible, and now the idea is to "provide enhancement and make the most out of what is there." Personally, I think he's talking out of his hat, but I'm not sure.
Posted by tisfan at July 29, 2002 09:35 PMI hate bras. If I didn't have breasts...
Wait. I think what I hate is having *breasts*, actually... It wasn't so bad when I was a 36C and they weren't in the way all the time, but this DD crap is for the birds.
I almost panicked the other day when I found my online catalog and thought they'd discontinued my favorite bra... They're cheapies - only $10 - but I have yet to find a "good" bra that fits as well and is as comfortable. Of course, the fact that they're cheap means I have to buy $50 worth of bras every 5-6 months, but... Oh, well.
Maybe when I get rich, I'll invest in some surgery...

They're in boxes, not on hangers, you can't try them on." And I'm thinking, what single item of clothing MORE needs to fit properly???
