Cruel and Unusual

So.....

Like I said, we had a flat tire. And no spare.

Kevin, yesterday, promised to take the car in today to get it inspected and I figured that we could get the flat fixed at the same time. I'd stay home with the baby and he'd go tend to the car problems.

Ha. Ha.

Ha, I say.

After I got a whopping two hours of sleep - surely all I need - Kevin started smacking his alarm-clock. "Did you find someplace for me to take the car?" he asks. I had handed him the phone book yesterday with a list of places, but as I don't know where the roads are around here, I didn't know which one was closer.

So I got out of bed and went to find where we could get the car inspected that was nearby enough that a can of fix-a-flat would manage to get him there before the tire went dead flat again.

I checked the phone book and with the help of Yahoo Maps, managed to find several places that could do inspections and change tires. The problem? All of them stopped taking inspections at 10am because it takes 1/2 an hour to do an inspection (longer if things actually need to be fixed) and by 10am they usually had 8 or 9 people in line. With an hour for lunch break, that meant they would be done with their inspections by around time for them to leave for the day.

I went in to tell this to Kevin who promptly decided he couldn't possibly take the car in today, he wasn't feeling well and his head hurt and he didn't get much sleep....

Fine. Whatever. I take the car in, just to get the tires changed and I'll get the fucking inspection (by myself, mind, with the baby in tow) later this week.

I get to the Kramer tire - who made me the lowest quote on tires of the people I called - just barely. The tire was so punctured that the fix-a-flat really didn't help much and I could hear the air hissing out of it from inside the car.

Did all the paperwork and sat down to wait. And wait. And wait...

A lot of places now have TVs set up - theoretically so that people waiting can have something to do. I brought a book, which was good.

Someone had stolen their remote last week, which was bad. The TV can not be controlled (or volume adjusted or even turned OFF) without the remote.

So I got to watch/listen to: One episode of It's So Raven. (There's some immutable law of TV that whenever you only see one or two episodes of a show you really could care less about, it's always the same fucking episode. It happened again. I'd seen this episode of It's So Raven several months ago while in a doctor's waiting room.) Two episodes of Kim Possible. (Which is not as bad as it could have been, so I guess I can cope...) And two back-to-back episodes of Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers: Dino-Thunder....

Can someone just shoot me now?
