I'm not the world's best person when it comes to abstract pattern recognition -- taking a mass of fuzzy data and correlating it to something more concrete. Like constellations, for example. For years, I could never spot a one. I satisfied myself by making my own Big Dippers out of whatever appropriate stars I could see. Lately, I've gotten pretty good at picking out Orion, but that's about it.
It was with some trepidation then, you understand, that I went to the ultrasound, where we'd see the baby. Or sort of see the baby. It's 9 weeks along (11 weeks using the stupid Doctor Standard Time), so we're not expected to be able to pick out whose nose the baby has yet.
Liz still did a lot better job than I did. I made out a head and body. Liz picked out the beating heart (she was closer to the monitor than I was, though). So, I'm sure you'll be glad to hear that she was the one who has done the rather helpful labeling in the picture past the More link.

Ladies and gentlemen, Particle Brooks (we need to come up with a new nickname).

Posted by: mithy on January 24, 2003 08:56 PMand, at the risk of being judged before the little brooks even pops out, i have to say that the front-on picture reminds me immensely of a little broodling.
